The Crown (A Netflix Original)

Netflix shall soon be releasing another Original Series, The Crown. And with acting talents of Claire Foy (Wolf Hall) as Queen Elizabeth II and Matt Smith (Doctor Who) as Prince Philip, we are definitely in for a treat.

Scripted by the brilliant Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon), this drama also exhibits a strong supporting cast. There are people on this list that I’ve been thirsting to watch on good television. I’ve been granted my wish.

John Lithgow as Winston Churchill
Greg Wise as Lord Louis Mountbatten
Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margaret
Eileen Atkins as Queen Mary
Harriet Walter as Clementine Churchill
Jeremy Northam as Anthony Eden
Alex Jennings as Prince Edward, Duke of Windsor

You’ll be hearing from me soon once I’ve seen this. This is such an exciting new addition to the dramatic history of the British Monarchy.

Meanwhile, it’ll do us good to refresh our memories by re-watching some films to understand how The Crown fits within an overarching narrative of the British crown and its relevance in the modern world.
